If you have a restaurant, you know how important your refrigerators are to the day-to-day operation of your business. You can’t afford to have refrigerators that are not operating at peak efficiency. Regular restaurant refrigerator maintenance can save you money on operating costs, and it can also extend the lifespan of your refrigeration units, reducing the replacement costs you incur over time.

Restaurant Refrigerator Maintenance

If you want to keep your units running their best, here are some restaurant refrigerator maintenance items to regularly attend to:

  • Mop under the unit: Get refrigeration units on castors if you can, so they are easy to move as needed. A wet mop under the unit can reduce how dirty your coils get and improve efficiency.
  • Clean the interior and exterior of the unit: When you complete cleaning, check all the surfaces for dings and scratches. These imperfections can encourage the growth of bacteria, and you may have to replace the liner if the scratches are too severe.
  • Check the gaskets: To work efficiently, the cold air has to stay in your unit. The gaskets around the door make a seal that keeps the cold air where it belongs. Check the gaskets with the door open and then close the door and check for cold air leaking through.
  • Clean the condenser coils: While some of these maintenance items can be completed by you, cleaning the condenser coils is one restaurant refrigerator maintenance job that should really be done by a professional at least two times a year. These coils should also be cleaned any time they are dirty, so check them often.
